The word ‘cuernavaca’ has its etymological origin in the Náhuatl, language of the Nahua tribes dwelling the zone before Cortes’ arrival, and it comes from the word ‘cuauhnáhuac’, which means ‘among groves.’ Among its main attractions, we have the Palace of Cortés, located in the main square, built by the conqueror on the ruins of a pre Columbus temple, which at present is the museum Cuauhnáhuac, which keeps a series of wonderful murals by Diego Rivera. The neighboring ‘Jardín Juárez’ has a kiosk designed by Gustave Eiffel, where you will be able to buy fruit juice.. To the west, we bump into the cathedral, from the XVI century. Sunday mass with mariachis is famous all over Mexico. The museum ‘Casa Robert Brady’ exhibits an extraordinary art, antiquities and craft collection. Cuernavaca is also mentioned by its gardens, being ‘Jardín Borda’ the most beautiful.
