Archeological ruins of Monte alban

Monte Alban ruins

At a short distance of Oaxaca City, is the wonderful archeological site of Mount Albán. On a hill, from where it is possible to observe a beautiful panoramic view of the valleys of Oaxaca, these ruins are a legacy from the Zapotec culture, though they are also believed to have been inhabited by Mixtec Indians.
In the middle of the site, is the Great Square, surrounded by interesting buildings, such as the Ball Game, a sport similar to soccer, common among Mesoamerican cultures, and the Palace, one of the ceremonial buildings.
Meanwhile, it is possible to watch a good panorama of the ruins of this city from the J Building, while, at a side of the L Building we find the Palace of the Danzantes (Dancers), perhaps the main attraction of Mount Albán, consisting of several blocks of stone located one next to the other, with carvings of men in a special position. It is believed that they represent dancing; nevertheless, scientists have not been able to decipher their exact meaning, having been even said that they have extraterrestrial influences.

On the north platform of the ceremonial center, we find the tomb 104, which is generally open, and where it is possible to see a reproduction of Cocijo, god of the rain; whereas, the treasures found in the tomb 7 can be seen in the Regional Museum of Oaxaca.
