Sierra de San Pedro Martir National Park

Wildlife of San Pedro Martir

With a surface of 630 km2, the National Park ‘Sierra de San Pedro Mártir’, is the most remarkable of the Baja California peninsula.
Its fascinating pine grove overwhelms the visitor, who, in turn, will be surprised by the sharp granite formations of the park. These represent a real challenge for climbers, in special the famous Devil’s Peak, a summit reaching 3,078 meters high.
What is most attractive in San Pedro Mártir is the astronomical observatory located on top of Devil’s Peak. It is from 1971, when the first telescopes were built; nevertheless, it was not officially inaugurated until 1979. It is formed by three domes, one is white and blue, the second is red and the last is white. The red tower has the biggest telescope of Mexico, with 2.12 meters of diameter in its lens, and 3 tons of weight.
