Every year, at the end of October, early November, the beautiful
monarch butterfly gets to the State of Michoacán.
Looking for a warm place to mate, it flies from Canada and the United
States to the welcoming Mexican lands. There it stays until March,
when it goes back to North America. In Michoacán, there is a place that receives most of these
butterflies, the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary ‘El Rosario’,
reachable by a narrow ground road. When getting there, you will have
two options: walking or riding a horse, because there is not any
access for a vehicle to the same place where the butterflies are.The
trip might be a bit difficult; however, the landscapes of pine groves
and green grass are comforting, and the mountain air is fresh. It is
recommendable to go along it calmly, and get ready to walk, because
not all the way is adequate for horses. Anyway, the spectacle offers
an unparalleled beauty. Shortly before getting to the sanctuary, you
will start to notice brief orange flutters next to you, which will
increase as long as you approach the sanctuary. When you get there, you
will be astounded, watching thousands of butterflies as clusters, in
tall trees, covering everything, flying from one place to another,
leaving almost no room for the green of the trees, everything is
intense orange. You will feel moved and thankful by the miracles
Nature offers us.
