 Taxco

Street in Taxco

Known as the city of silver, though this mineral is not extracted anymore in the area, Taxco is one of the most picturesque and beautiful of Mexico.
Declared as National Patrimony, it is remarkable by its white houses with red roof, scattered along the hills.
Its narrow streets look like Spanish towns, and they lead to the main square, dominated by the beautiful pink church of Santa Prisca, from the colonial period, dating back to 1758, presenting a typical churrigueresque façade and a dome covered with tiles.
Near the main square, we find the Museum of Silver, which has a varied collection of objects made with this metal. On the other hand, the Museum Guillermo Spratling of Taxco has a private collection of pre-Colombian art and bric-a-brac.
Behind the cathedral, is the Crafts Market, with all kinds of typical articles and objects.
In relation to silver, stores devoted to sell objects made with this metal are all over the city; nevertheless, all Saturdays they carry out a ‘tiaguis de la plata’, a kind of outdoors market full of stores selling jewelry, crafts and silver articles, very varied, and at much more convenient prices.
