Since you get to the known port of Veracruz, you feel the heat and taste of the Mexican Gulf. Specially in this city, where the heat doesn’t give up during all the year long, and people are dark-skinned, with a way of speaking similar to those of Central America.

Though Veracruz is mainly a great industrial and petrol port, the city glows with an own and unique charm, which makes the city unavoidable for the tourist.It is known as a happy and festive city, and every year, in February, they celebrate the famous Carnival of Veracruz. They say that its ‘Zócalo’, or main square is the most active in Mexico, because during all day and almost all night you can hear trio, marimba, salsa and danzón.
It is nice to stroll along the levee or sit to watch big ships going out and in the port. Don’t miss the Great Café of the Parish, a place where people have spent more than a century drinking the delicious coffee of their lands.
To the south of the levee, we find the aquarium of Veracruz, the biggest and best equipped of Latin America. Its great variety of impressive sharks is remarkable.
It is recommendable to visit the overwhelming fortress of San Juan de Ulúa, more than 500 years old.This sensational fort, with coral walls, was built to stop pirate attacks, but by and by, it became a high security jail.
